Why I Am Hopeful – Shapeshifting The World

By John PerkinsWatching the news each day, we know that we are living in a time of tremendous change and upheaval: global economic crises, interminable violence around the planet, environmental destruction, social injustice, and our own domestic political deadlock. We ask ourselves: Are we powerless to make any lasting or impactful changes? Where do we start?

Many of you are familiar with my work in economics, sustainability, and reigning in the “corporatocracy.” I want to take this opportunity to share with you why I am so hopeful that we can and will change. For me, the most important and satisfying work I do is in the area of shapeshifting.

Shapeshifting is about energy. We ourselves are made of energy and all of our emotions are energy. The practices that collectively are known as “shapeshifting” empower us to use that energy to change ourselves and the institutions that impact our lives. We can transform our “negative” thoughts and emotions into positive energy that we can then channel into appropriate actions. Throughout history humans have found shapeshifting to be one of the most effective means of transforming ourselves, organizations, and communities.

A personal example: I am sad and angry about the way modern corporations and governments collaborate to make the rich constantly richer and the rest of us poorer; at the same time, our environments and societies suffer terribly. In the past, my sadness and anger manifested in destructive and self-destructive ways. Shapeshifting taught me to convert those emotions into positive energies and to take meaningful actions.  Now, I write, lecture, and teach workshops. I am personally so much happier, as well as more effective!

Each of us has the ability to shift into being the individual we most respect and want to personify. Through Shapeshifting we are capable of bringing about fundamental changes in our attitudes, perceptions, prosperity, health, appearance, and personal relationships. By utilizing the principals of shapeshifting we can also transform societies. We can create a sustainable, just, peaceful world where all beings can thrive.

On July 25 I head to the Amazon and Andes to collaborate once again with and learn from indigenous leaders, shamans, and elders about shapeshifting consciousness. Along with Soul of Money author Lynne Twist and her husband Bill, I will also lead a trip for The Pachamama Alliance (Lynne, Bill, and I are TPA cofounders) to the Achuar, “People of Dreams,” where we will delve deep into the process of dreaming a new world. When I return I’ll facilitate 2 experiential workshop in the transformational process. Both workshops are held at the beautiful Omega Institute, about an hour and a half up the Hudson River from NYC.

The weekend Shapeshifting Leadership (Aug 24-26)  focuses on healing within and using your power to take a leadership position in changing your community, society, corporation, or other institutions.
