About John Perkins
As Chief Economist at a major international consulting firm, John Perkins advised the World Bank, United Nations, IMF, U.S. Treasury Department, Fortune 500 corporations, and leaders of countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. He is a founder and board member of Dream Change and The Pachamama Alliance, non-profit organizations devoted to establishing a world that future generations will want to inherit and the author of the New York Times bestseller, Confessions Of An Economic Hitman.

St Petersburg International Economic Forum & Astana Economic Forum

John gave two speeches at the St Petersburg (Russia) International Economic Summit, June 1-3, on the importance of transforming a failing Death Economy into a successful Life Economy. He was impressed by the overall feelings of connectedness and by speeches given by President Putin, UN Secretary General Guterres, and many other business and government leaders about the need for greater cooperation among all countries to deal with climate change, terrorism, and internet crime, and the importance of recognizing the threats that challenge all of us around the world. Read John’s major take-aways from the event in his blog post, here. At the Astana Economic Forum, from June 13-15, John shared the stage with some of the world’s most forward looking government, business and thought leaders. He sat on panels and in roundtable discussions with President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstn, Prime Minister Bakhytzhan Sagintayev of Kazakhstan, Prime Minister Francois Fillon of France (2007-2012), Prime Minister Marek Belka of Poland (2004-2005), Prime Minister Djoomart Otorbaev of Kyrgyzstan (2014-2015) Nobel Prize laureates Sviatoslav Timashev and Raekwon Chung, and President Putin’s Economic Adviser Sergey Glazyev. Read John’s major take-aways from the event in his blog post, here.

What People Are Saying

Yanis Varoufakis, Former Greek Minister Of Finance
When I read Confessions Of An Economic Hit Man, I could not have known that, some years later, I would be on the receiving end of the type of economic hit that Perkins so vividly narrated. This book resonates with my experiences of the brutish methods and gross economic irrationality guiding powerful institutions in their bid to undermine democratic control over economic power. Perkins has, once again, made a substantial contribution to a world that needs whistleblowers to open its eyes to the true sources of political, social, and economic power.

Juliet Chieuw, Ph.D., Center for Quality Assurance - Aruba University
It was the goal of the University of Aruba to have a speaker that would inspire our general public and encourage critical thinking that would help shift our usual conversations in society. John Perkins delivered and much more than that. John Perkins inspired all that he met with the personal transformation story of his own life. He educated us about the kind of death economy that we are conditioned into believing is the only reality possible and held out the hope and vision of a life economy that honors life and recognizes the value of deep relationship and connection.

Richard Dunkerley, Co-Director of Alternatives - Saint James Church, London
John Perkins gave one of the best talks of the year in our program at St James’s Church. His background as a chief economist combined with his shamanic training makes him a hugely compelling voice on what is happening to our politics and to our environment. He is an inspirational speaker and his talk motivated everyone into thinking what we can do personally to change our world for the better.

The feeling of gratitude that I am experiencing after attending your workshop nearly exhausts the language that I can muster. The “dreamshop” was life-changing. It was exactly what I had been “praying” for without even knowing that I had been praying. I now feel connected into a much larger, much more loving net of being. All of the dreams that I have for myself, and for the world we live in, feel more possible now. I feel less and less that I am alone with my dreams, less the feeling that if a desire has arisen in my heart that I must fulfill that desire, alone, with my own hands, with my own talents.

Susan Jennings, Director, Office of Campus & Community Sustainability - UMass Dartmouth
This is the third time we have asked him to speak at UMass Dartmouth, and each time he has come he’s brought not only his sharp insight into the political, economic and environmental landscape but also his warm humor. Our students, faculty, and community members love him and crowd around him before and after his talks. As someone who spends most of my time thinking about all the destruction going on across the planet, it is hopeful and healing to work with a man who has seen the darkest parts of humanity but remains optimistic and committed to the future.

John Perkins’ message of how individuals can put pressure on the corporations to conduct business around the globe with ethics and sustainability as their main focus was taken to heart by all our students, faculty, staff, and surrounding community in attendance. John’s message is inspiring and his delivery fills those in attendance with hope, motivation, and desire for this much needed change. What sets John Perkins apart from other critical views of our system is that he provides his readers and listeners with viable solutions to solve our current issues.

Chunhuei Chi, MPH, Sc.D., Associate Professor - Oregon State University
Our students, faculty and community members enjoyed his very inspiring and thought-provoking talk about the state of political economy and environment in our world. Moreover, his warmth and passion were contagious that transpire hope and energy to the audience amid the seemingly gloomy warnings he gave. Our students were enormously impressed by his very approachable manner. After his talk, he spent another 80 minutes signing books and talking with audience. One seldom finds a speaker that is both inspiring and with such great warmth toward audience, especially students.
