Nelson Mandela - The Power Of Peace

“It always seems impossible until it’s done.” Nelson Mandela (1918 – 2013)

Nelson Mandela left this life yesterday at the age of 95. The whole world is joining together in mourning his death and celebrating his life. He is one of the heroes that I mention because he started by just taking one step toward his dream of conquering apartheid and racism with no idea that he would someday be an inspiration to all. After spending 27 years in prison for his actions against the apartheid government, Mandela emerged with a choice: he could go forward with his life in bitterness and hatred, or he could forgive and strive to change his world. He rose above the circumstances and used his power, the power that each of us has within, to not only end apartheid in South Africa but also to have an impact on the globe. His example shows us that it is indeed possible to change the world through unceasing efforts for peace and equality, and that changing perceptions is more powerful than any army. “As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same,” he said.To witness world leaders who are so opposed to each other, sometimes diabolically, on almost every single issue, come together in agreement to honor the life of this man is a stunning example of the power that we each have when we dedicate our lives to peacefully changing the world by fighting for the rights of all. As we change our consciousness we will be able to do impossible things with others. As he said: “One of the things I learned when I was negotiating was that until I changed myself, I could not change others.”Let his life inspire you to use your power to take those steps towards change which will in turn inspire others. This is how we will work together to create a positive future for the next generation.
